REACHtracker OverviewREACH is the most ambitious regulatory legislation enacted in decades. Its impact will be felt by every manufacturer, retailer, chemical supplier and distributor doing business either directly or indirectly in the European Union. So how do you prepare for REACH? REACH is a substance based regulation which means that every substance used in the manufacturer of an article or preparation needs to be disclosed and calculated as a percentage of the whole product. Generally stated, for manufacturers inside the EU, you must know whether your upstream suppliers have registered or intend to register any substance used in quantities over 1 ton. If a supplier chooses not to register, then the manufacturer will have to register if it wants to continue using the substance. Suppliers outside of the EU must have a subsidiary inside the EU designated as a legal entity or an Only Representative (OR). This legal entity must track all of the imported substances, by component, entering the EU. The key to complying with REACH is knowing the constituents of your products and having effective communication between upstream suppliers and downstream users. Effective communication will let you know what raw materials are registered and what raw materials represent a supply chain risk if they are not registered. Communication with downstream users is essential for researching how your product is used and subsequently developing the appropriate exposure scenarios. Exposure scenario data is required for producing an extended (M)SDS. For more than a decade, Actio has provided global enterprises with a chemical management platform, delivered as SaaS (software as a service), for managing, tracking and analyzing the chemical composition of raw materials. This platform is based upon a comprehensive substance inventory management system (SIMS). REACHtracker, developed in collaboration with Atrion International, leverages this decade of knowledge by linking our SIMS database to an efficient communication platform that utilizes email to connect you with suppliers and downstream users. The process begins with an upload of your supplier and product information. Supplier information can be directly imported from your ERP platform (SAP, Oracle) using web services or imported from Excel, Access or a variety of other applications. Once supplier data is entered, you can create or select an email campaign and check the list of suppliers to receive the email. Once sent, your supplier receives your letter with a link that automatically logs them into the SIMS database to complete their product information. Once completed, you will have a complete record of the substances and your supplier's REACH intentions. In addition to supplier communication, REACHtracker enables you to communicate with your downstream users to determine how a product is being used and under what conditions is the use. This is essential information in the development of an extended (M)SDS containing product exposure scenarios. REACHtracker is the most efficient and cost effective tool for managing supply chain REACH obligations.
